The article by Reza Taran, who is a Professor of the Qom University of Religion, a teacher at the Qom Spiritual Seminary, one of the best specialists in the area of history and political role of Shia clerics, was published in the scientific journal “State, Religion, Church in Russia and Abroad” (№ 2, Volume 44, 2026) with the assistance of Ibn Sina Foundation.
The article is dedicated to changes considering governmental ruling in the area of Imam Mahdi’s Great Concealment in the Shia political thought. The author analyzes discussions on the legimacy of jurists’ (fuqaha) government, the relation between Islamism and Republicanism, and the effectiveness of the nowadays Iranian political system. He comes to the conclusion that the contemporary Iranian Islamic thought now faces one of the most dynamic and pluralistic periods of its history.
The publication was included into the thematic issue “Religion and the Political Power in Iran”.
