The course of lectures on Urdu literature was held at the Centre of Oriental Literature from February 4 to March 25, 2025. Now it is available on the LectOrient platform.
The lectures were prepared and delivered by Lyudmila Alexandrovna Vasilieva, the Candidate of philological sciences and the senior research scholar at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The course consists of five lectures, each one covers the key aspects of Urdu literature.
- The lecture «Urdu Language in the Flow of Time» is dedicated to the main stages of Urdu language development.
- The lecture «The Rise of Urdu Literature. The Early Period (XIII-XV Centuries)» covers the link between Persian literary tradition and Urdu poetics.
- The lecture «Sufism and Urdu Literature» depicts the influence of Sufism on the formation of Urdu artistic language.
- The lecture “Muslim Educational Movement in the Second Half of the XIX Century and Urdu Literature” dicloses the interconnection between Urdu literature and sociocultural processes.
- The final lecture “The Contemporary Literature in Urdu” is dedicated to the modern trends in this literature.
The course of lectures by L.A. Vasilieva was organised and held with the help of Ibn Sina Foundation in cooperation with the Centre of Oriental Literature of the Russian State Library.
