On July 2 the fifth meeting of “Nour-e Iran” Cinema Club took place at the Oriental Cultural Centre of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The drama “The Longest Night” by Kiyumars Pourahmad (2001) was screened during the meeting.
Iranian cinema lovers not only got a possibility to watch this masterpiece but also to discuss it with the filmmaker and operator Hossein Salari. The program included the film presentation, the review of artworks by Kiyumars Pourahmad and this film’s role in the history of Iranian cinema, the screen provided by simultaneous translation by Svetlana Tarasova who is a PhD student of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and a vivid discussion with Hossein Salari.
The film “The Longest Night” tells us s story of a family divided by emigration and switching between two cultural identities. Spectators pointed to its emotional and philosophical depth, as well as to the excellent work of its operator.
