The Book ”Edifying Literature of the Saljuk Period in Persian: Originals and Forgeries” Published by ”Sadra”

The final book of the series ”Edifying Literature of the Saljuk Period in Persian: Originals and Forgeries” was published by ”Sadra” Publishing House with the assistance of Ibn Sina Foundation, the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences and ”Petersburgskoe Vostokovedenie” Publishing House. This work was accomplished by the senior research scholar of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexey Aleksandrovich Khismatulin. Its full title is ”Three Texts From Saljuk Provinces. Part 2. Muhammad Khatib. Fishat al-‘Aladalah Fi Qawa’id al-Saltanah (”The Tent of Justice in the Rules of Sultan Governance”)”.

The second part of the third book contains the Russian translation of the book ”Fushat al-‘Adalah” created in 683/1284-85 on the territory of the Saljuk Rum Sultanat that has been never published before. It belongs to the category of career administrative literature and poses an example of a Medieval plagiarism combination from several sources. The main of these sources was the first edition of ”Siyar al-Muluk” (Siyasat Nameh) published in the first book of this series. Huge parts taken from this and other texts were intentionally edited with the help of several methods of plagiarism disguise in order to take a post of a guardian muhtasib at the court of the local ruler of the Kastamonu Province subordinated to Saljuk Sultans. The translation and the original text was published on the base of a unique manuscript from the collection of  La Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF).

The series  ”Edifying Literature of the Saljuk Period in Persian: Originals and Forgeries” also include the previously published works ”The Writings by Imam al-Ghazali” (2017), ”Amir Mu’izzi Nishapouri/Siyasat al-Muluk (”The Book on Governance/Lives of the Saints”): the Forgery Attributed to Nizam al-Mulk” (2020) and ”Three Texts From Saljuk Provinces. Part 1. ‘Unsur al-Ma’ali Kay Qawous. Qabous Nameh (”The Book of Qabous”); Nizami ‘Aruzi Samarkandi. Chahar Maqalah/Majma’ al-Nawadir (”Four Conversations/The Collection of Anecdotes”)” (2024). The first two works by A.A. Khismatulin won an award at the XII International Farabi Festival in 2021. The last three books of the series were published on the basis of results of competition for the search of Ibn Sina publishing grants.
