On October 1 and 2, 2025 two meetings with the Iranian artist Hosein Esmati were held with the assistance of Ibn Sina Foundation at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
On the first day the opening ceremony of the unique program of master classes on Persian miniature was held at the Institute. The Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences A.K. Alikberov pronounced a welcome speech. He underlined the importance of preserving and studying traditional Oriental art and expressed his gratitude to the partners for organising the event. The President of Ibn Sina Foundation Hamid Hadavimoghaddam also referred to the audience. He spoke on Foundation’s mission in the area of popularization of Iranian cultural heritage and the support of a dialogue between Russian and Iranian between Russian and Iranian scientists and artists.
The first master class of the Iranian master H. Esmati began from a small lecture. The miniaturist spoke on the history of Persian miniature and its symbolics that was used in the miniatures for «Shakhnameh». The practical part was dedicated to drawing a horse, a lion and a dragon with a pencil. Under the guidance of the artist the guests managed to create their first sketches in this unique technique.
The second day started from the speach of the Head of the Cultural Representative Office of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Ahmadvand. He described specific features of Persian miniature and expressed his gratitude to the event organizerd for creating this platform that could help in rapprochement of Russian and Iranian cultures.
The final master class by Hosein Esmati was dedicated to drawing a horse and the bird Simourgh in the technique of working with ink. He presented a gift for the best picture of Simourgh to one of the female participants of the event.
At the end of the two day program the guests of the event could enjoy the exhibition of Hosein Esmati’s artworks and to drink tea with the Master.
Hosein Esmati is a participant of various international exhibitions, the member of some festival juries, a practicing artist from Iran and an experienced teacher. In his artworks he combines traditional techniques of miniature with the modern approach to art.
