Three Texts from Saljukid Provinces. Part 2: “Muhammad al-Khatib. Fustat al- ‘Adalah fi Qava’id al-Saltanah” (“The Tent of Justice in the Rules of the Sultanate”)

Abstract

The second part of the third book has been never published in Russian before. It includes the Persian original of the text “Fustat al-‘Adalah” created in 683/1284-85 on the territory of the Saljukid Sultanate. This text belongs to the category of career and administrative literature and poses an example of medieval plagiarism compiled from several sourses. The main of these examples is the first edition of Sayar al-Muluk (Siyasat-namah) published in the first book of this series. Huge parts taken from it and other texts were deliberately edited by various means of plagiarism concealment with the aim of obtaining the position of muhtasib guardian at the court of Kastamon, the local provincial ruler subjugated to the Saljukid Sultan. The translation and the original were published on the basis of the unique manuscript from the collection of La Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF).
