The Collective Monograph “Dagestani Historical Writings of XV-XVIII Centuries” Published

“Sadra” Publishing House issued a fundamental scientific work prepared by scholars from the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnology of the Dagestani Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. For the first time a group of authors, namely Ramazan Sultanovich Abdulmajidov, Magomed Gadzhievich Shekhmagomedov and Shahban Magomedovich Khazipov, present a commented translation of the key Dagestani chronicles, paying the primary attention to the earliest of well-known manuscripts.

Each of the writings included into the monograph is provided by a profound preface where authors express their view on the most disputable issues of attribution and dating. Translations are provided by historical commentaries that reconstruct the context of events described in these manuscripts. It allows not only to comprehend these narratives but also to classify contraversary information obtained from these medieval Dagestani sources.

The book “Dagestani Historical Writings of the XV-XVIII Centuries” became the 9th volume of the series “Written Monuments of Dagestan” issued by the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Dagestani Federal Research Center of the RussIan Academy of Sciences. The work “Daghestani Arabic-Language Epistolary Sources and Documents of the Late 18th – Early 20th Centuries: Part I” by Z.A. Magomedova (“Sadra”; 2025) and the monograph “Decorated Muslim Stelae of the 14th–16th Centuries from Kubachi as Monuments of Stone-Carving Art, Arabic Epigraphy, and Calligraphy” by M.M. Mammaev had been previously published with the assistance of Ibn Sina Foundation.

The monograph was issued with the support of Ibn Sina Foundation based on Ibn Sina Grant Competition (Project № 2025.02.04).
