Abstract
This book includes new commented translations of the most important historical writings of Dagestan with its earliest lists of manuscripts. They are provided by a brief source-critical analysis where the authors make an attempt to find answers to some controversial questions related to attribution and dating the mentioned writings. The translation are followed by the explanation of historical context of the events described in these writings. It helps to obtain a deeper understanding of the character and content of the said chronicles. It also allows a reader to discover reliability of Dagestani writings that are full of controversial information. Besides this, according to the academic requirements to publication of historical sources, the book contains facsimile of the writings used in this work. Its authors hope that the monograph will be interesting not only for specialists on Caucasus but to a wider circle of readers.
