Ibn Sina Foundation Participated in Organizing and Holding a Small Conference at the Bulgarian Islamic Academy

On April 29 the conference “Language-Culture-Translation: Experience and Prospects of Oriental Studies” was held at the Bulgarian Islamic Academy. The event was dedicated to discussing the problem of the absence of high quality translations of the key Islamic texts and sources into Russian. Participants discussed measures to improve this situation.

The Scientific Director of Ibn Sina Foundation Andrey Lukashev spoke at the plenary session on behalf of the President of the Foundation Hamid Hadavimoghaddam. Mr. Lukashev noted that the Foundation is happy to cooperate with many of Russian scientific and educational centers that do research in the area of Islam and Muslim national cultures. He underlined that it’s a great honor for the Foundation to take part in organizing and holding such a conference at the Bulgarian Islamic Academy.

The words of greetings were also pronounced by Rishat Hamidullin, the Vice President of the Mufty of the Republic of Tatarstan for Media Policy and the Director of “Hudhur” Publishing House, and Ruslan Sayahov, the Vice Rector for Scientific Research of the Russian Islamic University of the Central Muslim Spiritual Administration.

Scholars from the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the Institute of Oriental Manuscrips of the RAS, the Institute of Philosophy of the RAS, the Institute of Language and Literature History of the Ufa Federal Research Center of the RAS, the Institute of Language, Literature and Art of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Institute of African and Asian Studies of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Russian State University of Humanitarian Studies, the Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, the Russian Islamic Institute and the Muslim Spiritual Administration of the Republic of Tatarstan participated in discussions related to Islamic sources translation. As a result of these discussions several proposals have been made. These proposals can become a basis for the development of professional Islamic translation and strengthening ties between academic science and religious institutions in Russia.

At the end of the first day of the conference Andrey Lukashev held a presentation of Foundation’s and “Sadra” Publishing House’s activities at the library of the Bulgarian Islamic Academy. The film “Written Heritage” dedicated to the art and philosophy of manuscript creation was also shown to the participants of the conference.
